Aboriginal Caucus Honouring Ceremony

On Sunday, March 20, 2011, the Aboriginal Caucus of the BCTF Annual General Meeting carried out an Honouring Ceremony with Speaker Wilie Pierre, to both teach and honour teachers of North America. Blanketed, as representatives of the teachers were BCTF table officers Susan Lambert, Jim Iker and Glen Hansman, as well as Betsy Kippers, vice- President of the Wisconsin Teachers' Union. As well, Susan and Betsy were entrusted with talking sticks symbolizing our entrustment that they will be sharing and speaking in good faith on behalf of all our children.

Teacher Inquiry into Health & Wellness of Teachers of Aboriginal Ancestry

On March 14th, 2011, several teachers of Aboriginal ancestry from around the province came together in Vancouver to begin a PQT teacher inquiry into the self esteem of Aboriginal students as it is reflected by the health & wellness of teachers of Aboriginal ancestry working in the BC public education system.

Conference News

Planning for the AEA Conference 2011 is underway for October 21 on the provincial Professional development day.  The conference will be held at Fort Langley Elementary School.  Further details will be released as we complete preparations.

Our last conference in October 2010 was a successful gathering of educators, sharing and learning on themes in Aboriginal education, as well as the ever-popular art workshops.
